How does BOTOX® work? Botox® Cosmetic relaxes the muscles in your face so they do not contract. The contraction of the muscle is what causes the visible wrinkles. Deep wrinkles are a result of that movement of the underlying facial muscles and are caused every time you smile, laugh or frown. These lines are a direct reflection of your daily routine i.e. a happy person might have deeper smile lines; a person who squints a lot might have "crow's feet" around the eyes. When should I see results? Once Botox® Cosmetic is injected into the muscles; you may start seeing results after 2 days, although full results may not be seen for 2 full weeks. The lines may continue to improve for up to a month. Will I still be able to make facial expressions? Definitely. Botox® is not supposed to completely paralyze the muscles. You should still have some movement in the areas that were treated, albeit less movement so as not to continue making the wrinkles that we are trying to treat. Normal expressions will be maintained. How long will Botox® last? Results should last up to 4 months, although people with stronger, thicker muscles may need it more often than that to weaken the muscles. What are the possible side effects of Botox®? Side effects are very rare and there are no known long term problems. There are, however, some risks involved; such as pain in the injection site, bruising, redness around the injection site, bleeding can occur at the injection site, and headaches. Most of these symptoms resolve very quickly, although bruising may last up to two weeks. Who should not have Botox®? If you have any diseases that affect your nerves or muscles, if you have an allergy to Botulinum Toxin or Human Albumin, if you have any infections where the Botox® will be injected, or if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant or if you are breast feeding or plan to breastfeed, you should not have Botox® injected. The TREATMENTDermal Fillers take about 15 to 30 minutes and the amount of discomfort depends on the sensitivity of the patient's skin. Lip enhancement can be uncomfortable; therefore patients are offered a nerve block prior to treatment to eliminate any pain. The product is injected just below the surface of the skin with a very fine needle. Patients may require a second visit to achieve full correction of the area. The body will eventually absorb the product, so ongoing treatments are necessary to maintain results, normally every 6-16 months. SIDE EFFECTSInjection related reactions may occur such as post treatment swelling, redness, pain, itchiness, bruising and tenderness at the injection site. These reaction resolve on their own within a few days. Patients should avoid aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, e.g. Advil, prior to treatment as they will increase the risk of bruising at the injection site.
WHAT IS JUVEDERM®Juvéderm® is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid- a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. The Juvéderm® injectable gel is eased under your skin to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your "smile lines" or parentheses" (nasolabial folds- the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth). What are the side effects of Juvéderm®? There are very few side effects with the use of Juvéderm®. You may experience temporary swelling, redness, pain, firmness and mild bruising. These side effects should subside within 3 to 7 days. Who should not have Juvéderm®?
How soon will I see a difference? You should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients only need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing or lip enhancement. One treatment could smooth your lines and wrinkles or fill your lips for up to 1 year! How should I prepare for a Juvéderm® treatment? Prior to treatment, we recommend that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS), for at least a week prior to treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site. What is Restylane®?Restylane® is a safe and effective product to replace lost volume and restore youthful contours to the skin. It can smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth. Restylane® is administered quickly and easily, requires no downtime for healing, and the result is immediate making this one of the most popular non-surgical procedures. Restylane® looks and feels natural for the duration of the product and can last up to 6 months. What are the side effects of having Restylane injection? You might experience slight redness, swelling, tenderness, itching and/or mild bruising following a Restylane treatment. This is the same as you might expect with any type of injection. However, the discomfort is temporary and generally disappears after a few days. Who should not have Restylane?
How soon will I see a difference? The results are immediate. Restylane can last up to 6 months or more in many patients. How should I prepare prior to a Restylane treatment? Prior to treatment, avoid using aspirin, ibuprofen, St. John's wort or high doses of Vitamin E supplements because this may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site.
